Get to know Laketra

My hope is to be able to partner with you on your journey to wholeness, happiness and contentment. I got into this work to help others improve the quality of their lives and to reconcile people back to themselves.

Do you often feel like everyone around you has it all together and you somehow didn’t get the manual? Would you believe me if I told you those people think the same thing about everyone around them? And so on and so forth…

You’re not alone. You’re not the only one who feels overwhelmed and unsure of themselves. In reality, you are determined. Resilient. Brave.

If you’re thinking, ‘Who is this woman hyping me up?!’ Allow me to introduce myself…

My name is Laketra and I am here to be your therapist!

I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Central Florida (go Knights!) in 2013. Shortly after graduation I moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where I attended the University of Cincinnati, and in 2015 earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work with an emphasis in children and families. In Cincinnati I worked as a Case Manager for youth with severe mental health disorders. It was in this role that my passion for mental health began. I realized how much a person’s mental state has an impact on literally every aspect of life. I involved myself heavily in different modalities that sought to improve not only my clients’ mental health but also the health of their family dynamics. Later, I became a licensed Social Worker and worked as a Child and Family Therapist in a school and office setting. I also began educating parents and school staff on trauma and its effects.

Currently, I am a Registered Clinical Social Work Intern. I am also certified as a Child Welfare Case Mgr and in the care management principles of Wraparound.

So basically, I was in school for a long time, have worked with a lot of kids and families, and have learned a lot of stuff…just so I can support you.

Support is crucial.

Even if it’s just someone reminding you that you are enough. I’m not just saying that to fill space on this page. I’m emphasizing something I wish I had as a first time mom sitting on my couch holding my precious baby all while wishing I wasn’t alive. Postpartum depression was real in my life. That plus anxiety which had been a close companion since my youth all made for a recipe for disaster. Thankfully, therapy, prayer, and other coping skills got me through. I know first hand what therapy can do. It was helpful two other times when this Florida native was struggling with transitioning to life in the Midwest and when my only sibling passed.

My hope is to be able to partner with you on your journey to wholeness, happiness and contentment. I got into this work to help others improve the quality of their lives and to reconcile people back to themselves. Not to the person society says you have to be or the person trauma turned you into for survival, but your true self. Whether that’s through making practical, tangible changes to your life or by shifting your perspective about your current situation, I am here to support and cheer you on along the way.
